MERCURY NEWS: Filmmakers plan to take a Bite out of Distribution

“Bite Me,” a romantic comedy that will see its world premiere March 9 at Cinequest, has a dark edge. The female lead is a vampire who falls in love with an IRS auditor; let the “bloodsucker” comparisons begin.

Jones and co-producer Sarah Wharton agree that “Bite Me” should play well at Cinequest.

“Cinequest is known for programming creative, on-the-edge content,” Wharton says. “We feel like our audience is built in.”

The film’s Cinequest premiere will be preceded by a Vampire Crawl around downtown San Jose. The filmmakers will also use the occasion to announce their “Joyful Vampire Tour,” a three-month cross-country trek to screen “Bite Me” at dozens of independent movie theaters. Documentary filmmaker Kiwi Callahan will be joining the tour to make a weekly docu-series that will be posted on YouTube.
